Dr Jabulani Nyawo is a Senior Lecturer in the discipline of Public Governance and the Academic Leader of Teaching and Learning at the School of Management, IT and Governance. He holds a Bachelor of Administration, a Bachelor of Administration Honours, a Master of Commerce in Leadership and a Doctorate of Administration (Public Administration) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
Dr Nyawo is involved in teaching the undergraduate level and supervising the Honours, Masters and Doctoral students.
Prior to joining academia, Dr Nyawo worked as a Business Coach for Bio-Regional South Africa – a Non-Profit Organisation involved in community development by supporting and developing small businesses in South Africa. He was also previously employed the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (KZN) as a Development Facilitator. In this role, he assisted in facilitating the implementation of social development interventions and ensured the linkages between the traditional institutions and municipalities concerning Integrated Development Plans.
Dr Nyawo’s research interests include, amongst others, Community and rural development, Governance, Regional and Local Economic Development Sustainable livelihoods, Human development, Small enterprises development and Teaching & Learning.
His a member of the Association of Southern African Schools and Departments of Public Administration and Management (ASSADPAM), the South African Association of Public Administration and Management (SAAPAM) and the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA).
