Dr Syanda A. Mthuli is a Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Public Governance as well as the Founder and Director of the Southern Africa Centre of Research and Institutional Development (SACRID). He holds a Bachelor of Administration (Management and Political Science) and a Bachelor of Administration Honours(Public Administration) from the University of Zululand, a Master of Commerce in Leadership Studies and a Doctor of Administration in Public Administration from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Dr Mthuli’s academic career spans various public institutions of higher learning (universities) teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in South Africa. He has over a decade of both academic and administrative experience gathered from supervising research projects from honours to masters (coursework and full-research) and doctoral students. He has also held various roles as he started as a teaching assistant progressed to a researcher and then a lecturer.

Dr Mthuli is a member of the Association of Southern African Schools and Departments of Public Administration and Management (ASSADPAM) and a peer-reviewer for local and international journals. His research interests are in Social sciences research methodology, Political leadership, competition and statecraft, Bureaucracy performance (Behavioural Public Administration perspective), Maritime Administration and Policy, Environmental Public Administration and Political Thought and Local participatory governance.
