Bachelor Of Commerce Honours In Supply Chain Management

NQF Exit Level 8

The programme is designed to provide the student with an understanding and working application of the principles essential to the effective management of organisations. The purpose of the programme is to broaden the student’s knowledge of Supply Chain to develop a thorough understanding of Supply Chain theory. In addition, the programme is aligned and will develop the skills necessary to apply the theory to understand material, information and capital flows and enable students to deal with the challenges experienced in Supply Chain management. The programme will also prepare students for existing careers in Supply Chain Management in the private and public sectors and studying towards a PhD.

There is a dire need for senior level supply chain management competencies in the contemporary African and Southern African context, given the rapid pace of globalisation and concomitant regional integration. Organisations increasingly find that they must rely on effective supply chains, or networks, to compete in the global market and networked economy. Many different roles and careers in Supply Chain are linked to this qualification. The programme addresses the problem of the national shortage of qualified personnel. Supply Chain management is of special interest to the working professional in business and private organisations. This aligns with the School’s purpose relating to the development of effective supply chain managers and the University’s strategic plan to provide quality teaching and research for the African context. The students will thus have a platform to become effective leaders and to be further equipped to become practitioner-research orientated in their on-going professional development. The programme will also serve as an entrance requirement to the Masters programme.
